Do you have the right patient mix?
Patient Mix is a tricky road to navigate. Many practices just assume the more patients it sees the more money it makes! Well, what if you could see different patients and make more? What is patient Mix? Patient Mix is the equation that leads to all the patients you see in your practice. Simply put: How many PPO patients, HMO patients, cash patients, and Medicare patients do I have? For example a typical General Practitioner runs about 85-90% on the large HMO patient mix structure. Meaning you are contracted with the top 5-10 HMO/PPO in your area because they control a large patient base. You contract with them and they fill your waiting room with patients. But are the reimbursements what you want? Usually not. You may think you make up for less money with more volume but this approach is a formula for disaster.

This is soooo funny.
I was having a discussion with another Derm in my area. She was boasting how busy she was!!!! I had a laugh a good deep laugh !!
Then i said to her- point blank'
"Hey doc-- do you know whats wrong with a practice where there are too many patients and you are too busy and you are booked up 6 months in advance??""
Of course she didnt- she is your typical drone MD--nice person, but not a business or marketing genius.
The answer that i gave her-- was " You are too busy because your fees are toooo low !!!!!
Try announcing to your waiting room that effective next week your practice will no longer accept Medicare-----HAHAHAHAH
Here is the good part--- once you stop taking that government crap-- you wont have a practice-- because those patients are only going to you because you take that government crap---- once you stop== you will be on welfare
Too bad for her
I have been in practice for 20 years and i have never accepted a penny from Uncle Sam-- and i wont.
once you take Uncle Sams money you are forced to play by his rules.
Cant wait to see some form of socialized medicine ...Yippeee
When that day comes- I am going to raise my fees even higher---
Good luck AMerica with your healthcare
There will be no health care reform without TORT reform.
